Where they agree

Contemporary decline predictions (dated specimens — down-links)

The thinkers above are theories of decline. This ledger holds dated, source-anchored predictions made in the present, filed so they can be scored later rather than admired now. A prediction with no recorded falsifier is not evidence of a cycle; it is commentary. Each entry therefore carries the test that would grade it.

Basic Logic — “How Immigration Replaced the Woke Left” (2026-08-20) — the West is remade demographically within decades; the 2010s culture war was a “feint” covering it; the retreat of progressive cultural politics is not a victory but the arrival of a new, socially-conservative voting bloc. Grading tests (§5 of that page): the gradient test (is the cultural retreat steepest where immigrant vote share is highest, or where the marginal native swing voter is?), the immigration-plank test (does the left shed borders too? — Denmark already runs against the thesis here), and the assimilation half-life test. Verdict so far: observation solid, mechanism real but demonstrated below the scale the conclusion needs, motive claim an argument from incredulity. Also the cluster’s cleanest instance of a general hazard for this page — an unfalsifiable framework mistaken for an analysis, since its “three paths” exhaust the option space by construction.

Open questions

Is the cycle breakable? Hayek says yes (constitutional constraints); Spengler says no. Historical record favors Spengler but n is small.
Does AI change the equation? Can AI’s information processing address Hayek’s knowledge problem, or is tacit knowledge resistant?
Is Turchin’s CMLS finding fatal to libertarian hope? If cooperative institutions require external threat, does peace guarantee their decay?
Where are we? Convergence or confirmation bias on 2020s–2030s?
Constrained-vision institutional design under AI? Can AI preserve spontaneous order rather than replace it?
